¿Cómo Se Dice Nerd? (CSDN) started on Twitter in early 2015. It was inspired by a series on LatinoUSA called “Diversity in Geekdom”, produced by Daisy Rosario.
For as long as I can remember, my latinidad and my nerdiness have been essential parts of my identity. But the world around me kept insisting that “Latinx” and “nerd” were mutually exclusive. I knew that couldn’t be true. I knew we were a part of this pop culture, entertainment, and art as much as anything else. So, I created CSDN in the hopes that anyone else looking for Latinxs in geekdom can skip the frustrating steps and get right to the interesting stuff. I hope it helps!

Program Development in Progress
No funds are being distributed at this time.
The Estela Grant is a microgrant program, mobilizing funds in the form of one-time contributions to help Latinx creators overcome some of the financial obstacles they face as they pursue their dreams and build their work. It was inspired by the work of Fund Club and other community-based microgrant programs, and it's named for my grandmother, Ana Estela, who never doubted what we could do.
How does it work?
Apply
Latinx creators fill out a short application form, sharing how they could use $200 to boost their current work. Latinx creators who are beginning or building their work and those with identities marginalized within the Latinx community are especially encouraged to apply.
Pledge
Supporters sign up and pledge to give what they can.
Every two months, CSDN will email the supporters about the chosen grant recipient.
Donate
Supporters fulfill their pledges by donating directly to the creator.
Together, we hope to rally $200 to support a Latinx creator in their work!
Celebrate
The recipient shares how they used the funds to celebrate with the community! Supporters can also help by spreading the word on social media.
